Is three days enough to see Crete?
Not the whole island. Three days works for one regional base such as Heraklion and Knossos. Visiting the far-western beaches, Chania and the major gorges as well would require more days or dropping most of this itinerary.
Can I visit Knossos and the Heraklion museum on the same day?
Yes. Visit the exposed palace in the morning, return to town for lunch, then see the Archaeological Museum. Check separate admission products and the museum's dated opening table; do not assume an old combined-ticket offer is still available.
Do I need a rental car for this Crete itinerary?
Not for central Heraklion or necessarily for Knossos. A car or arranged driver makes the final aquarium-and-Archanes circuit practical. A bus-only version should drop Archanes and protect the aquarium return connection rather than pretending every transfer is direct.
