10 days in Phuket: Old Town and the coast

A longer stay need not mean daily speedboats. This version adds Thalang temples, animal-welfare interpretation, Kathu's mining history and hands-on food and ceramics, grouped into road circuits.

10 daysFirst-time visitorsBalanced paceMid-range
Day 1

Old Town beyond a quick photo walk

Begin with two heritage interiors, then use the later afternoon for streets, shops and a meal. Museums add context to the facades, while the walking block stays flexible around weather.

Phuket Thai Hua Museum → Chinpracha House → Old Town streets; local walking with lunch and rest.
Open day route
Morning9:30 AM

Phuket Thai Hua Museum

28 Krabi Road, Talat Nuea, Phuket Town, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Use the exhibits to learn about Chinese migration and community life in Phuket before exploring the surrounding streets. The building is part of the story, but the visit deserves more than an exterior photograph. Select a manageable set of displays and leave time for interpretation rather than trying to combine the museum with several unrelated attractions before lunch.

Time
2 hours
Cost
Paid museum admission; confirm current rates
Hours
Check the museum's current daytime schedule Visitor information

Worth knowing: Confirm current opening before traveling from a beach hotel. Older destination articles are useful for context, not guaranteed daily operating notices.

Midday12:00 PM

Chinpracha House

98 Krabi Road, Talat Nuea, Phuket Town, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Visit the areas currently open to the public and pay attention to domestic detail rather than expecting unrestricted access to a whole historic property. This smaller-scale interior complements the museum's community story. If access is unavailable, extend lunch and the Old Town walk instead of substituting a distant stop that changes the day's character.

Time
1 hour 15 minutes
Cost
Paid house visit; confirm current admission
Hours
Check visitor access before arrival Visitor information

From the previous stop: About 10–15 minutes walking along Krabi Road

Worth knowing: Ask which rooms and photographs are permitted. A heritage house may have private or closed sections even when visitors are admitted.

Afternoon3:00 PM

Phuket Old Town — Thalang Road and nearby lanes

Thalang Road, Talat Yai, Phuket Town, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Explore a few streets around Thalang Road, choosing a café, snack or early dinner as part of the visit. Look at the buildings without blocking businesses or traffic. The route does not depend on the Sunday market operating; on other days the neighborhood still works as a combination of streets, shops and food rather than a promised festival.

Time
2 hours
Cost
Street visit free; food and purchases extra
Hours
Individual businesses vary; Sunday market is a separate weekly event Visitor information

From the previous stop: About 15–25 minutes walking, with lunch and a seated break before the route

Worth knowing: Check the actual day before expecting walking-market stalls. Seek shelter during heavy rain instead of extending the route to meet an arbitrary distance.

Day 2

Wat Chalong and the southern shoreline

Use a driver and group these southern stops together. The long afternoon gap allows lunch and rest, with one main viewpoint rather than several short stops on winding roads.

Wat Chalong → Rawai waterfront → Promthep Cape; driving with short permitted walks.
Open day route
Morning9:30 AM

Wat Chalong — Wat Chaitaram

Chao Fa West Road, Chalong, Mueang Phuket, Phuket 83130, Thailand

Explore the permitted temple areas respectfully, allowing time for the buildings and their religious context. The visit is not a promise that every hall or upper level is available. Keep worshippers' routes clear and let the group set a comfortable pace in the heat before returning to the car for the southern-coast drive.

Time
1 hour 30 minutes
Cost
Check visitor arrangements; optional offerings separate
Hours
Follow current temple access and ceremony instructions Visitor information

Worth knowing: Wear appropriate religious-site clothing and remove shoes where required. Ask before photographing people taking part in worship.

Midday12:00 PM

Rawai waterfront and lunch

Wiset Road waterfront, Rawai, Mueang Phuket, Phuket 83130, Thailand

Use the waterfront for a short walk and a seated lunch, choosing from current menus and checking seafood prices before ordering. Boats are part of the setting, but no spontaneous island excursion is included. This is a meal-and-coast stop, not a swimming recommendation, and older descriptions of the water should not override local conditions or warnings.

Time
1 hour 30 minutes
Cost
Lunch and refreshments paid separately
Hours
Restaurants and businesses keep individual hours Visitor information

From the previous stop: Allow 25–45 minutes by car depending on traffic

Worth knowing: Confirm whether seafood is priced by weight or portion and what cooking charges apply. Keep clear of working boat and road access.

Afternoon4:00 PM

Promthep Cape main viewpoint

Promthep Cape, Rawai, Mueang Phuket, Phuket 83130, Thailand

Spend time at the established viewpoint area, taking in the coast and pausing for a drink if facilities are open. The plan does not include descending to a remote headland or finding an unguarded cliff edge. The suggested afternoon time is not a sunset guarantee, and poor visibility is a reason to shorten the visit rather than wait indefinitely.

Time
1 hour 15 minutes
Cost
Main viewpoint visit; refreshments extra
Hours
Daylight visit; follow weather and access notices Visitor information

From the previous stop: Allow 15–25 minutes by car; use the intervening time for a rest

Worth knowing: Stay within permitted visitor areas and agree a pickup point. Do not follow informal cliff or headland tracks for a photograph.

Day 3

Kata and Karon at a leisure pace

Leave a proper block for the coast, add one land-based activity and finish with dinner near Karon. This day can be shortened or moved indoors if beach weather is unsuitable.

Kata Beach → Dino Park → Karon beachfront; short local transfers, not a full-island circuit.
Open day route
Morning9:30 AM

Kata Beach

Pakbang Road beach access, Kata, Karon, Phuket 83100, Thailand

Use the morning for relaxing by the coast, a short beach walk or a café, according to conditions. Swimming is optional only when current local guidance permits it, not an assumed part of the schedule. The two-hour block is intentional downtime; you do not need to fill it with another attraction simply because the rest of the trip has named museum stops.

Time
2 hours
Cost
Beach time; rentals and refreshments extra
Hours
Follow current flags, lifeguards and weather notices Visitor information

Worth knowing: Do not enter the water against warnings or flags. Carry sun protection and change the plan if heat, storms or surf make the visit uncomfortable.

Afternoon1:30 PM

Dino Park Phuket mini golf

47 Karon Road, Karon, Phuket 83100, Thailand

Play a round of themed mini golf as a light change of pace from museums and beach time. The block includes arrival and a drink rather than assuming a competitive round takes exactly ninety minutes. Choose the appropriate ticket and keep weather in mind; it is a land-based option, not a guaranteed fully indoor refuge from heavy rain.

Time
1 hour 30 minutes
Cost
Paid activity; ticket products differ
Hours
Operator lists seasonal hours; verify the chosen experience Visitor information

From the previous stop: Allow 10–20 minutes by local transport, plus lunch before playing

Worth knowing: Check which activity the ticket covers and the weather policy. Different experiences on the same site can have different closing times.

Evening4:30 PM

Karon beachfront and early dinner

Patak Road beachfront, Karon, Phuket 83100, Thailand

Finish with a limited beachfront walk and a seated dinner chosen from actual menus. This is not a second compulsory swimming session or an attempt to walk the entire shoreline. Staying in the same coastal district makes the final evening simpler, with enough flexibility to return early if weather or tiredness makes another outdoor block less appealing.

Time
2 hours
Cost
Public beach visit; dinner and drinks extra
Hours
Coastal access and restaurant hours depend on current conditions Visitor information

From the previous stop: Allow 10–20 minutes by local transport to the chosen beach access

Worth knowing: Use designated beach access and observe current warnings. Confirm your return transport before committing to a late meal away from the hotel.

Day 4

Panwa collections, bay and town shrine

Spend the morning indoors, protect a coastal lunch, then return toward town for a separate religious visit.

Phuket Aquarium → Ao Yon Bay → Jui Tui Shrine; allow lunch and transport buffers between visits.
Open day route
Morning9:00 AM

Phuket Aquarium

51 Moo 8, Sakdidet Road, Wichit, Mueang Phuket, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Explore the marine displays and interpretation at Cape Panwa, allowing time to understand the region's underwater habitats without booking an animal encounter.

Time

Soi Phuthon, Ranong Road, Talat Nuea, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Visit the permitted shrine spaces and observe the setting's religious role, allowing a quiet pause after the busier coastal part of the day.

Before you decide

Questions about this trip

Are two water parks compulsory?

No. They are separate leisure afternoons, not a challenge to complete every slide. Replace one with hotel downtime if that better suits your party.

Can we visit Soi Dog independently?

Follow its scheduled public tour and staff instructions. Visitors cannot roam the sanctuary unattended, and animal areas may close for welfare reasons.

Will a workshop item be ready that day?

Not necessarily. Ask SiTAO about firing, pickup and shipping before booking, especially near the end of your stay.
