Build your road-trip route outline

Split a route into driving days, name each overnight stop and estimate moving plus planned-stop time from your own distances and average speed. Your entries stay in this page; nothing is uploaded or saved.

Moving time is distance divided by your average speed. Stop time uses the same per-stop allowance for every driving day; it does not include traffic, queues, closures, weather or unplanned rest.

What this road-trip planner does not check

It does not read a live route, choose roads, optimize stop order, verify hotels, predict traffic or account for closures, weather, charging availability, driver fatigue or local rules. Confirm the route and every important stop with current sources before driving. The estimate is not a statement that a driving day is safe for a particular driver or vehicle.

Ready to price the route? Use the focused fuel cost calculator when you only need fuel, or use the road-trip cost and drive-time calculator for lodging, tolls, parking, food and the full budget.

A route outline, not live navigation

Make the driving assumptions visible before you book.

This planner turns distances you already checked into a daily outline. It deliberately keeps moving time, planned breaks and route notes separate so a single map estimate does not look like a complete driving day.

How do you estimate a day's driving time?

Divide that day's route distance by an assumed average moving speed, then add time for planned stops. For example, 180 miles at 60 mph is 3 hours moving; two 20-minute stops bring the planned total to 3 hours 40 minutes. Live traffic, closures, weather and unplanned breaks are not included.

Split the route before adding attractions

Choose a realistic overnight or final stop for each driving day. Enter the route distance you expect to drive, including important detours.

Separate moving time from stop time

Use a route-wide average moving speed, then count fuel, food, charging and driver-change stops. Traffic and unplanned breaks remain outside the estimate.

Check every overnight stop separately

The worksheet organizes your plan but does not verify hotels, parking, road access or arrival rules. Confirm those details before booking.

Next: price the route

Add fuel, lodging, tolls, parking, food and a buffer.
