For a family that would rather look, talk, and move at its own speed, start by considering Ripley’s Aquarium. For children who want experiments and more active entertainment, compare WonderWorks. Those are planning suggestions, not age guarantees: check the exhibits and participation rules against your own children’s interests.

Do not automatically buy a multi-attraction bundle because rain appears in the forecast. Compare the final checkout total for your actual party with the single attraction you expect to use. A second admission only saves money if you would otherwise have bought it, and a tired child may have a different idea of value.

Option A: make the aquarium your morning

Ripley’s Aquarium is at 1110 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach. Its official page shows the day’s opening hours and links directly to tickets. Check your visit date there; do not treat the hours displayed for today as a promise for every future date.

Allow roughly two to three hours as a planning estimate, followed by lunch. Choose a few exhibits to focus on instead of turning the visit into a checklist. If your children are happiest early, select an opening-time visit when available, but do not assume that early means quiet during a rainy holiday week.

Keep the next activity flexible. If lunch runs long or someone needs a nap, returning to your accommodation is a perfectly workable afternoon. There is no benefit to adding another paid stop just to fill a space on the itinerary.

Option B: start later at WonderWorks

WonderWorks is at 1313 Celebrity Circle. The operator currently lists a 10:30 a.m. opening, with a 9 p.m. close Sunday–Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday–Saturday. Last admission is an hour before closing. Its café opens at noon; allow about three hours for your visit rather than planning around the last entry.

Check the requirements for the specific activities your children want to try. Some experiences have height or footwear restrictions, and the operator flags flashing lights and motion. Outdoor Soar + Explore is not an indoor rain backup. Online tickets still require admission-line verification, and WonderWorks specifically warns that rainy days can mean longer waits.

• Leave a queue buffer before any fixed lunch booking or afternoon commitment.
• Ask about the particular experience if light or motion effects are a concern.

A quieter afternoon: books, not another ticket bundle

Chapin Memorial Library, 400 14th Avenue North, is an option for a short reading break if your children enjoy books and can settle into a shared public space. Treat it as a library visit, not a play centre or drop-off activity. Check the event calendar and any registration requirements before promising a particular programme.

Published hours are 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday. A suggested 2–2:45 p.m. stop fits the usual Saturday schedule; verify holidays and notices separately. Borrowing materials is a separate question from spending time reading: ask staff about visitor options.

Put the day together without overbooking

For an aquarium day, work backwards from an unhurried lunch: attraction in the morning, lunch around noon or 12:30, then a rest or the library. For WonderWorks, shift lunch later or eat during your visit and drop the afternoon stop if the admission queue uses up your buffer. These are suggested time blocks, not reserved entry slots.

Both paid choices use Celebrity Circle addresses, while the library is a separate trip closer to the oceanfront. Check the route from your actual accommodation before leaving. Staying in North Myrtle Beach or farther south changes the journey considerably; there is no single useful driving time for the whole Grand Strand.

Keep dry layers, snacks for an appropriate break outside exhibits, and a compact activity for queues in your day bag. If the rain eases, you can decide on an outdoor walk then. This is an ordinary rainy-day outline, not a reason to ignore severe-weather warnings or travel restrictions.
